The Benefits of Not Buying Through Ticketmaster

Earlier this week I got Thom Yorke tickets through Radiohead’s site. I hadn’t done this before. I suspected better seats and guessed somewhere around half the cost of what Ticketmaster would sell them for 2 days later.

There was no seating map to view at the time of purchase and Row 8 seat 66+67 didn’t sound very good. Having practiced in other cities earlier I learned a) it was possible to get 3rd row seats, and b) all is sold in 2 minutes. I seriously considered reloading to try and get better seats but in the end went through with it. Even after looking at the seating I was actually pretty bummed.

So bummed even the cost didn’t cheer me up.

For the poops and pickles I just had a look...

While I equate the $161 to 2 bottles of Whisky, Ticketmaster wants the equivalent of a motorcycle and 2 helmets. I’m now over the moon.

If AvE were to reference Ticketmaster, what would he say?

Yep, it’s been a long time. The last tickets I bought through TM were for The Pol ice. It’ll probably be that long again too.

The internet and the endorsement of scalping by companies like Ticketmaster have made going to see anything a completely miserable experience. People just buy up every good seat seconds after they go on sale and Ticketmaster happily let them turn around and immediately relist the same seats at a 500% markup.

It also creates an aura of being unattainable with bragging rights . There are many wealthy to eat that up. They’ve done the maths.
